Suspended Inversions, and the Anchor That Has to Hold Them
Hanging inverted in a fabric sling does something a mat cannot: it removes the compressive load of gravity from the spine and lets the intervertebral discs decompress while the surrounding muscles relax. The hammock also acts as a mobile support, letting you enter deep backbends and hip openers with the fabric bearing part of your bodyweight, so you can hold end-range positions without the muscular strain that normally limits them. The effect on the spine is temporary — it is a pleasant unloading, not a permanent lengthening — and the shoulder and grip strength you build getting into these shapes is very real.
Key Benefits
- Spinal decompression through inversion. Hanging upside down unloads the discs and allows the deep spinal musculature to release in a way that is difficult to achieve standing on the floor.
- Supported access to deep backbends and hip openers. The fabric carries part of your weight, so you reach end-range positions with less muscular guarding — useful for mobility work and genuinely lovely to move through.
- Low-stretch nylon tricot for predictable behaviour. Low-stretch fabric does not surge or bounce under load. Stretchy fabric is dangerous in an aerial context, because you cannot predict how far you will drop.
- Builds real grip, shoulder and core strength. Controlling your bodyweight in an unstable suspended medium is demanding work, and it develops stabiliser strength that floor work leaves untouched.
- 5.5 yards of fabric with a wide colour range. Enough length for a broad range of hammock heights and figures, in a dozen colours.
- Honest note on inversions. Inverting is not for everyone. If you have high blood pressure, glaucoma or other eye conditions, a heart condition, are pregnant, have had recent surgery, or have any spinal or vertebral artery condition, inversion carries real risk. Ask a doctor before you hang upside down — this is not a formality.
How to Use
The anchor is the entire safety story. Suspend the hammock only from a structural anchor rated for dynamic aerial load — a solid ceiling joist, a purpose-built rigging point, or a certified aerial rig — installed by someone competent to assess the structure. Never hang it from a drywall anchor, a suspended ceiling, a pull-up bar, a door frame, a pipe, or anything you are guessing about. Dynamic load in aerial work is a multiple of your bodyweight, and the failure mode is that you land on your head. Inspect the fabric, carabiners, daisy chains and anchor point before every single use, without exception; look for nicks, fraying, discolouration or deformed hardware, and retire any component with visible damage. Learn from a qualified aerial instructor before attempting inversions unsupervised, keep crash matting underneath you, hang the hammock low while learning, and never train alone. Remove rings, watches and zips that can snag or cut the fabric.

Care & Maintenance
Wash the fabric by hand or on a gentle cool machine cycle with mild detergent, and air dry only — heat weakens nylon fibres, and weakened fibres are the last thing you want between you and the floor. Never use bleach, and keep the fabric away from sharp objects, rough walls, jewellery and pet claws; a single nick in aerial fabric is a tear waiting for load. Store it clean and dry, out of direct sunlight, since UV degrades nylon strength invisibly over time. Inspect hardware for corrosion, cracks or deformation regularly and retire it at the first sign of either. Never load fabric or hardware that has been damaged, dropped from height, or is of unknown history.
