Why Heat And Vibration Work On A Stiff Shoulder — And When They Don’t
Warming tissue to around 40°C does something specific: it increases the extensibility of collagen in muscle and joint capsule, so the same stretch produces more lasting range of motion. It also dilates local blood vessels, raising blood flow to tissue that is stiff rather than injured. Vibration adds a second mechanism entirely — it floods large-diameter sensory nerves with input that competes with slower pain signals at the spinal cord, the gate-control effect, which is why a buzzing pad dulls a deep ache within minutes. The shoulder benefits more than most joints from a wrap simply because a loose hot pack falls off it.
Key Benefits
- Heat for stiffness, not for fresh injuries — this is the single most important thing on this page. Heat increases blood flow and swelling, so it is exactly wrong for the first 48 hours after an acute strain, tear or impact. Use cold then. Heat is for chronic stiffness, old aches, arthritis and pre-stretch warm-up.
- Gate-control pain relief from vibration — the vibration motors give the nervous system something louder than the ache to pay attention to, which is a real, well-documented mechanism rather than a marketing line.
- Genuinely improves stretching results — warm tissue stretches further and holds the new range better, so ten minutes of heat before your shoulder mobility work is the highest-value way to use this.
- Wraps and stays put — the adjustable strap system holds the heating element against the deltoid and rotator cuff area through movement, which a hot water bottle or gel pack simply will not do.
- LED display with selectable levels — you can see which heat and vibration setting you are on, which matters when the difference between comfortable and a burn is a couple of degrees.
- Support, not stabilisation — the wrap gives compression and warmth. It is not a medical immobiliser and will not hold a dislocated or unstable shoulder in place.
How to Use
Fit the wrap over the shoulder with the heating panel centred on the sorest area, then tighten the straps so it is snug but not restricting circulation — you should be able to slide a finger underneath and your arm should never tingle or go numb. Start on the lowest heat setting and give it five minutes before deciding to go higher; the heat builds. Sessions of 15–20 minutes are the sweet spot, followed by gentle range-of-motion work while the tissue is still warm. Safety: never sleep in it. Contact burns from heating devices almost always happen to people who fell asleep wearing one, because you stop noticing the temperature. Do not use it on numb skin, broken skin, an open wound or a fresh bruise. If you have diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, or any condition that reduces sensation, talk to your clinician first — you cannot rely on pain to warn you that the skin is burning. Do not use it over a topical heat rub such as capsaicin. Do not use while pregnant without medical advice. Stop and check your skin if you feel any prickling, and stop entirely if the skin stays red or blotchy afterwards.

Care & Maintenance
Always unplug or power down and let the unit cool completely before cleaning. Wipe the fabric with a barely damp cloth and mild soap, and never submerge the wrap or put it in a washing machine — the heating element and wiring are inside the fabric. Air dry fully before the next use or before storing. Store it flat or loosely rolled rather than sharply folded, since repeated creasing over the heating element is what eventually breaks the internal wires. Inspect the cable and connector for damage before every use and stop using it immediately if you find any.
