Why Heat Helps Stiff Hands — and When It Absolutely Doesn’t
Applied heat causes local vasodilation: blood vessels widen, blood flow to the area increases, and tissue temperature rises by a few degrees. That has two effects worth caring about. First, warmer connective tissue is more extensible — collagen fibres deform more easily, which is why stiff hands and fingers feel looser after a few minutes of warmth. Second, heat modulates pain signalling at the local level, competing with nociceptive input and reducing the perception of aching. This is why heat works for chronic stiffness, arthritic joints, and pre-activity warm-up. It is also precisely why heat is the wrong choice for a fresh injury, where increased blood flow means increased swelling.
Key Benefits
- Up to 8 hours of continuous warmth — enough to cover a full day outdoors, a long walk, or a cold commute without recharging.
- Magnetic two-piece design — snaps together into a single power bank for storage, or splits so you can warm both hands at once.
- Instant heat, no shaking or chemicals — unlike disposable iron-oxide sachets, it heats immediately and you can turn it off.
- Multiple heat levels — lets you dial the temperature to comfortable warmth rather than being stuck with one setting.
- Real relief for stiff, arthritic hands — sustained gentle warmth increases tissue extensibility and eases the aching stiffness of cold-weather joint pain.
- Rechargeable, so no waste stream — replaces hundreds of single-use warmers over its life.
- Doubles as a phone power bank in variants that include a USB output — useful, though it drains the heating runtime.
How to Use
Charge fully before first use. Press and hold the power button to activate, then cycle through the heat levels to find a setting that is pleasantly warm, not hot. Hold in the palm, slip into a pocket or glove, or rest against stiff finger joints. For pre-activity warm-up, 5 to 10 minutes is plenty. Safety — heat therapy rules that genuinely matter: do NOT apply heat within 48 hours of an acute injury (a sprain, strain, or knock) — use cold instead, because heat increases blood flow and will worsen swelling. Never fall asleep holding it. Do not use it on numb, broken, irritated, or recently scarred skin. If you have diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, or any condition that reduces sensation in the hands, use only the lowest setting and check your skin every few minutes, because you may not feel a burn developing. Do not apply directly to bare skin at the highest setting for long periods — prolonged contact heat can cause low-temperature burns and erythema ab igne (mottled skin discolouration) even at temperatures that never feel dangerous. If skin goes red and stays red, stop.

Care & Maintenance
Charge every few months even when not in use — lithium-ion cells degrade if left fully flat for long periods. Wipe the shell with a dry or barely damp cloth; never submerge it and keep it away from water. Do not store it in a hot car, near a heater, or in direct sunlight. Do not use it if the shell is cracked, dented, or swollen, or if the battery ever bulges — a deformed lithium cell is a fire risk and should be taken to a battery recycling point, not thrown in household waste.
