Cover Up to Cool Down: How Summer Arm Sleeves Beat Bare Skin
It sounds backwards to add a layer in the heat, but skin exposed to direct sun absorbs radiant energy and heats up faster than shaded skin. A thin, light-coloured sleeve reflects part of that radiation while the fabric wicks sweat outward across a wide surface area, where it evaporates. Evaporation is the body’s main cooling engine, and spreading moisture over a larger, breathable surface speeds it up. That is where the “ice” sensation comes from — not refrigeration, but faster evaporative heat loss plus sun that never reaches your arms.
Key Benefits
- Shades the skin cyclists always forget. Forearms and upper arms take direct overhead sun for the entire ride, and they are the first place riders burn on a long summer day.
- Cooling by evaporation, not refrigeration. The fabric spreads sweat thin so it evaporates faster — expect a cool, breezy feel, not an ice pack.
- Unisex, sport-agnostic fit. Cycling, running, volleyball, hiking, driving — anywhere your arms sit under the sun for hours.
- On and off in seconds. Pull them off at the café stop or when the sun drops, and stuff them in a jersey pocket. No jacket to carry.
- Silicone grippers keep them from creeping. A sleeve that slides down to your elbow every ten minutes is worse than no sleeve at all.
- Honest note on sun protection: we have no independently verified UPF rating from the supplier, so we won’t print one. The fabric physically blocks direct sun on covered skin — but keep using sunscreen on your face, neck, and hands.
How to Use
Slide the sleeve up your arm before you kit up, with the wider end at the bicep and the gripper band sitting flat against skin — not rolled. It should feel snug but never leave an indentation or make your hand tingle; too tight restricts blood flow in a position you’ll hold for hours. On very hot days, splash water on the sleeves at a stop: soaking them briefly turbo-charges the evaporative effect for the next 20-30 minutes. Take them off if you feel chilled on a fast descent, and don’t rely on them alone for sun safety — sunscreen your uncovered skin regardless.

Care & Maintenance
Cold machine wash on a gentle cycle, inside a mesh bag to protect the elastic and grippers. Do not tumble dry, iron, bleach, or use fabric softener — softener coats the fibres and kills the wicking action, which is the whole point of the fabric. Hang to dry; they dry in minutes. Wash after every sweaty session, as salt residue degrades elastic over time.
