12pc Beginner Boxing Set – 10oz Gloves, Headgear, Wraps & Mouthguards

$151.99

A 12-piece beginner boxing set covers everything needed to start training at home or in a gym. It includes 10 oz gloves, headgear, hand wraps, a mouthguard, skipping rope and a carry bag. Ten-ounce gloves suit bag work and pad work; move to 16 oz before you spar with a partner.

Four Layers of Protection, and One Honest Caveat

Beginner boxing gear works as a system, and each piece has a different job. Hand wraps come first and are structural, not padding: they bind the metacarpals, the small carpal bones and the wrist into one stable unit so the hand cannot splay or fold on impact. The 10oz gloves are the padding layer, lengthening the collision so the same momentum arrives as a lower peak force. The mouthguard does something less obvious — it stops the teeth slamming together and cushions the transmission of force up through the mandible into the skull base, as well as protecting the teeth themselves and the soft tissue of the lips and cheeks. The headgear protects the face and scalp from cuts, abrasions and eye-socket impacts. Together that is a sensible base layer for anyone learning. But it is worth being precise about what the last one does.

Key Benefits

  • Hand wraps do the structural work. Gloves without wraps is the single most common beginner mistake — the padding protects the target, the wraps protect your hand.
  • 10oz gloves. A standard general-purpose training weight, suitable for bag and pad work. If you go on to spar regularly, most gyms will want you in heavier 14–16oz gloves.
  • Mouthguards, which are the highest-value item here. Dental injuries are common, expensive and permanent, and a mouthguard is the cheapest protection in combat sport.
  • Headgear reduces cuts, abrasions and facial impacts. Genuinely useful, and that is what it is for.
  • Two packs, so it works for a pair. Training partners, a parent and teenager, or two housemates starting together.
  • A complete starting point. No working out what to buy piecemeal before your first session.

How to Use

Wrap your hands first, every single time — anchor at the wrist, cover the wrist several times, then the knuckles, then the thumb, and finish back at the wrist with the hand slightly open so the wrap is not a tourniquet when you make a fist. Boil-and-bite the mouthguard properly before using it: a badly fitted guard slips out under impact and protects nothing. Fit the headgear so it does not rotate on your head and does not creep down into your line of sight. Start on pads and the bag with a coach. The caveat we are obliged to give you: headgear does not prevent concussion. It reduces cuts, abrasions and superficial impacts, and it does not meaningfully reduce the rotational acceleration of the brain inside the skull, which is what causes concussion. Amateur boxing removed headgear from elite men’s competition precisely because the evidence did not show it reduced concussion — and there is a plausible argument it makes the head a slightly larger target. Wearing this set does not make head contact safe, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you a false sense of security. Never spar without a qualified coach present. If anyone takes a knock to the head, they stop immediately and do not return that day; if there is confusion, headache, dizziness or nausea, seek medical assessment.

Care & Maintenance

Air everything after every session with the bag open — sealed damp gear is how gloves and headgear become unusable. Wipe leather and padding with a damp cloth only; never soak, never machine wash, never dry on a radiator. Rinse mouthguards in cold water (hot water deforms the moulded fit) and store them in a ventilated case, never loose in a bag. Wash hand wraps regularly in a mesh bag on a cool cycle and hang them to dry. Replace any glove whose padding has gone hard, and any mouthguard that has cracked or lost its fit.

Common questions

What ounce boxing gloves should I buy?
Ten to twelve ounces for bag and pad work, sixteen ounces for sparring. Heavier gloves protect your training partner as much as they protect you.
Do I need hand wraps under gloves?
Yes. Wraps support the wrist and the small bones of the hand, and they take the sweat that would otherwise rot the glove lining. Wrap in a figure-eight around the wrist and over the knuckles.
How do you fit a boil-and-bite mouthguard?
Follow the stated boil time exactly, then bite and suck the guard into place before cooling it in water. Over-boiling thins the material and gives a loose fit that protects far less.
