ROCKBROS Half-Finger Cycling Gloves – Gel Padded, Anti-Slip Bike Grip

$42.99

Half-finger cycling gloves with gel padding and an anti-slip palm, for road and mountain riding. The gel sits over the base of the palm where the handlebar compresses the ulnar nerve — the cause of the hand numbness riders get on long descents. Measure around your palm at the knuckles; snug with no bunched fabric is the fit that works.

Numb Hands, Nerve Compression and the Point of Gel Padding

Ride for long enough with your weight through the bars and two nerves start to complain. The ulnar nerve passes through the base of the palm on the little-finger side, and the median nerve runs through the carpal tunnel in the middle; both sit close to the surface, and both get squeezed against the handlebar under sustained load. Compress the ulnar nerve and you get the classic tingling, numbness and weakness in the ring and little fingers that cyclists call handlebar palsy. Gel padding spreads that contact pressure across a wider area and away from the nerve corridors, while also damping the constant high-frequency road buzz that fatigues the hand.

Key Benefits

  • Gel where the nerves are. The padding is placed to spread load across the palm rather than letting the bar press directly into the ulnar and median nerve pathways – the actual cause of numb fingers.
  • Vibration damping. Gel absorbs a good share of the high-frequency chatter coming up through the fork and bars, which is the thing quietly draining your hands and forearms on a long ride.
  • Skin protection when it goes wrong. In almost every fall, your palms hit first. A glove is the difference between a scuffed glove and a palm full of gravel that takes weeks to heal.
  • Anti-slip palm grip. A sweaty palm on a bar tape or a grip is a genuine control problem. The textured palm keeps your hands where you put them on a rough descent.
  • Half-finger and breathable. Open fingers keep you cool and let you brake, shift and use a phone without stripping the gloves off – the reason most riders end up not wearing full-finger gloves in summer.
  • Honest caveat. Padding manages the symptom. If your hands go numb on every ride, the underlying issue is usually bike fit – too much weight on the bars, saddle nose down, reach too long – and no glove fully compensates for that. Change hand positions often, and get a fit check.

How to Use

Size for a snug fit with no bunched fabric in the palm – a loose glove folds under load and creates exactly the pressure point you bought it to avoid. Position the gel pads over the heel of the hand before you set off, and check they are still where they belong when you change hand position. On the road, move your hands regularly: hoods, tops, drops, or in and out on a flat bar. No amount of gel replaces simply not holding one position for two hours. Pull the gloves off by the tabs at the wrist rather than dragging them off by the fingertips, which is what tears the seams. If numbness or weakness in your hand persists after you get off the bike, or lasts more than a day, stop riding through it and see a clinician – persistent nerve compression is not something to train around.

Care & Maintenance

Wash them regularly and by hand in cool water with mild soap – gloves worn against sweaty skin become genuinely unpleasant fast, and salt degrades the gel and the elastic over time. Air-dry them away from direct heat and never tumble-dry; heat hardens gel and shrinks synthetic palms. Do not wring them out, reshape them flat instead. Retire gloves once the palm is worn thin or after a crash has abraded them, because their protective job is already done.

Common questions

Where should the padding sit in cycling gloves?
Under the heel of the hand, where the handlebar presses on the ulnar nerve. Padding placement matters more than thickness, and too much padding can actually increase pressure elsewhere.
Wrist wraps or lifting straps?
Wraps stiffen and support the wrist joint for pressing and overhead work. Straps loop around the bar to take grip out of the equation on heavy pulls. They solve different problems.
How do you wash gym gloves?
Cold hand wash and air dry. Machine washing and tumble drying stiffen leather palms and delaminate padded inserts.
