Jump Ropes & Cardio

A jump rope is the cheapest serious conditioning tool there is — ten minutes of skipping produces a comparable cardiovascular effect to a much longer run, in a space the size of a bath mat. The variable that decides whether you stick with it is rope length.

This collection holds 14 speed, weighted, beaded and cordless jump ropes plus small cardio accessories.

Sizing and rope type

Stand on the middle of the rope with one foot; the handles should reach roughly to your armpits. Most adults land between 9ft and 10ft. Buy adjustable if more than one person will use it.

  • PVC speed rope — fast, light, best for double-unders.
  • Weighted rope — slower, builds shoulder endurance, easier to feel the rhythm as a beginner.
  • Beaded rope — durable on concrete, good audible rhythm.
  • Cordless rope — for low ceilings and apartments.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I jump rope for?

Start with 5–10 minutes broken into 30–60 second intervals. Skipping is high impact on calves and Achilles, so build volume gradually rather than doing 20 minutes on day one.

Do I need a mat under a jump rope?

On concrete, yes — a mat protects both your joints and the rope. Wooden floors are fine as they are; avoid skipping on tile, which is hard and slippery.

Weighted or speed rope for beginners?

Weighted. The extra mass makes the rope easier to feel through the whole rotation, which shortens the learning curve.
