Ear clip TENS electrodes attach to the earlobe for auricular stimulation with a standard TENS unit. They are metal clips on 2 mm pin leads compatible with common TENS connectors. Check your unit uses 2 mm pins rather than snap studs, and do not use ear electrodes with a pacemaker or implanted stimulator.

Read This Before You Buy

These are ear clip electrodes: an accessory that connects to a TENS unit and delivers stimulation to the ear (auricular stimulation). We want to be careful here. Ear stimulation is used clinically in some specific contexts, but the evidence base for home use is limited, and the ear sits close to the head and the vagus nerve. This is not something we would encourage you to experiment with unsupervised. If you’ve been advised to use auricular TENS by a clinician, these are standard 2mm clips that fit most units. If you haven’t, please talk to one first.

How to Use

Please consult a clinician before using auricular TENS. Do not use if you have a pacemaker or any implanted electronic device, if you are pregnant, if you have epilepsy, or if you have a heart condition or arrhythmia. Do not use near the eyes, on the front of the neck, or across the head. Start at the very lowest intensity — the ear is far more sensitive than a limb. If you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or notice any change in heart rhythm, stop immediately.

Common questions

Who should not use a TENS or EMS device?
Anyone with a pacemaker, implanted defibrillator or other implanted electronic device, anyone who is pregnant, and anyone with epilepsy or a heart rhythm disorder should not use one without medical advice. Never place electrodes over the front of the neck, across the chest, on the head, or over broken skin.
What is the difference between TENS and EMS?
TENS uses low-level pulses aimed at interrupting pain signals. EMS uses stronger pulses that make the muscle contract. Many units do both, but they are different settings with different purposes.
How often do gel pads need replacing?
Most pads last twenty to thirty sessions before they stop sticking. Wash the skin first and put the protective film back on after each use. Pressing a dried-out pad harder does not restore contact.
