Blisters Are a Friction Problem, Not a Toughness Problem
A blister forms when repeated shear force separates the layers of the skin and fluid fills the gap. Two things drive that shear: movement between your foot and the sock, and moisture. Wet skin has a substantially higher coefficient of friction than dry skin, which is why a cotton sock — which absorbs sweat and holds it against you — is the single most reliable way to produce a blister on a long run. Synthetic moisture-wicking yarn moves sweat away from the skin surface instead of storing it, while targeted cushioning at the heel and forefoot lowers the peak pressure at the two places where hot spots almost always start.
Key Benefits
- Moisture-wicking yarn keeps skin dry. Dry skin has lower friction, and lower friction is the whole blister-prevention mechanism.
- Targeted heel and forefoot cushioning. Reduces peak pressure exactly where hot spots reliably appear.
- Snug, shaped fit. A sock that bunches is a sock that shears. Fit is what stops the movement in the first place.
- Breathable mesh panels. Ventilation over the top of the foot helps sweat evaporate rather than pool.
- Five pairs. Enough that you can always have a clean, dry pair — worn-out socks lose their fit and their cushioning, and that is when blisters come back.
- Ankle cut. Sits above the shoe collar, which protects against the heel-tab rub that catches a lot of runners out.
How to Use
Pull the sock on smooth, with no folds or bunching anywhere — particularly under the arch and across the toes, since a single wrinkle is a blister waiting to happen. Make sure the heel of the sock sits in the heel of the shoe, and check that the toe seam isn’t jammed against your toenails. For runs over about 90 minutes, or in wet conditions, consider a second pair in a pocket. If you feel a hot spot developing, stop and deal with it there and then — tape it or adjust the sock — because a hot spot takes 30 seconds to fix and a full blister takes a week to heal. Replace socks when the cushioning has flattened or the cuff has stopped gripping; a stretched-out sock has lost the fit that was doing the work.

Care & Maintenance
Machine-wash cool and inside out to protect the cushioned pile, and skip the fabric softener — it coats synthetic fibres and directly reduces their ability to wick moisture, which is the one thing you bought them for. Air-dry rather than tumble-drying on high heat, which degrades elastic and is what turns a snug sock into a baggy one. Retire socks when the cuff no longer grips or the cushioning has compressed flat.
