What the Evidence Actually Supports
LED light therapy is not snake oil, but it is routinely oversold. The evidence is reasonable for two wavelengths in particular: red light, which appears to stimulate fibroblast activity and may modestly improve fine lines and skin texture over months of consistent use, and blue light, which has antibacterial effects on C. acnes and can help with mild inflammatory acne. The other colours have far thinner evidence. Results are gradual and modest — think months, not weeks, and improvement rather than transformation. Anyone promising dramatic change is overstating it.
Key Benefits
- Red light — the best-supported wavelength for skin texture and fine lines
- Blue light — antibacterial, with reasonable evidence for mild acne
- Seven colour modes covering face and neck
- Hands-free — wear it while doing something else
- Non-invasive, no downtime
- Realistic timeframe: consistent use over months, modest gains
How to Use
Cleanse skin first — the light must reach it. Wear for 10 to 20 minutes, 3 to 5 times per week. Consistency over months is what produces results; occasional use produces none. Always use the supplied eye protection and keep your eyes closed. Do not use if you have epilepsy or are photosensitive, if you take photosensitising medication (some antibiotics, retinoids, St John’s Wort), if you are pregnant, or if you have lupus or another photosensitive condition. If you have any skin condition under treatment, check with your dermatologist first.
