UPF 50+ Cycling Arm Sleeves – Cooling UV Protection for Riding & Running

$7.99

UPF 50+ cycling arm sleeves protect the arms from sun during riding, running and outdoor work while wicking sweat. They are sold as a pair in cooling stretch knit rated UPF 50+, with silicone grip bands at the bicep. They cool through evaporation, so they feel coldest with air moving over them and warmer when you stop.

Shade You Can Wear: Why Covered Arms Often Feel Cooler Than Bare Ones

Sunlight heats you two ways: direct radiant load on the skin, and the UV that damages it. A tightly knitted UPF 50+ fabric blocks roughly 98% of UVA and UVB before it reaches the skin, cutting radiant heating at the same time. The nylon-elastane knit then wicks sweat outward across a wide surface area, where it evaporates and carries heat away with it. The net effect on a hot, sunny ride is skin that stays drier, cooler and unburnt — without a reapplied layer of sunscreen sliding into your eyes.

Key Benefits

  • UPF 50+ rated fabric — blocks approximately 98% of UVA and UVB on the area it covers, the highest standard rating given to sun-protective clothing.
  • Evaporative cooling, not insulation — the knit moves sweat to the outer face of the fabric where airflow evaporates it, which is why covered arms frequently feel cooler than exposed ones in direct sun.
  • No reapplication, no residue — unlike sunscreen, the protection does not sweat off at hour two, and nothing runs into your eyes on a descent.
  • Light graduated compression — the sleeve hugs the forearm and bicep, which some riders find reduces arm fatigue and vibration on long days in the saddle.
  • Wear beyond the bike — equally useful for running, golf, hiking, gardening and long drives, where the right forearm takes disproportionate sun through the window.
  • Barrier against scratches and insects — a genuine practical benefit on gravel, trails and overgrown lanes.

How to Use

Slide each sleeve up the arm so the upper hem sits under the sleeve of your jersey or shirt, with no gap of exposed skin at the shoulder. The silicone or elastic top band should feel secure but never leave a deep indentation — if your fingers tingle or your hand discolours, the sleeve is too tight or the wrong size. One honest caveat: UPF protection depends on the fabric maintaining its knit density, so a sleeve stretched thin over an oversized arm protects less than one sized correctly. Sleeves protect only what they cover — keep using sunscreen on your face, neck, ears and the backs of your hands. They are not a substitute for sun cream on exposed skin.

Care & Maintenance

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colours and hang to dry. Avoid fabric softener and tumble drying — both degrade elastane, and a sleeve that has lost its stretch will sag, gap and protect less. Do not iron or bleach. Wash after sweaty use rather than storing damp, as salt residue shortens the life of the elastic bands.

Common questions

How tight should a compression sleeve be?
Snug and even, with no rolling at the edges and no numbness or tingling. If it leaves deep marks or the limb feels cold, size up.
How do I stop a sleeve from sliding down?
Size it by the circumference of the widest part of the limb, not by height or clothing size, and make sure the silicone grip band sits on skin rather than over clothing.
How do you wash compression sleeves?
Cold wash and air dry. Heat from a tumble dryer breaks down the elastane, which is what makes compression garments go slack after a few months.
