Curved Punch Target Mitt – Boxing, Taekwondo & Sanda Focus Pad

$21.99

A curved punch mitt is a hand-held target used by a coach to catch punches and kicks in boxing, taekwondo and sanda. It has a curved padded face over layered foam with a hand strap and wrist support. Hold the mitt out to meet the strike rather than letting it land passively — catching flat is how coaches hurt their wrists.

The Training Tool That Fixes Your Timing Faster Than a Heavy Bag

A heavy bag is a static object, so it only ever trains force production. A hand-held target moves, appears and disappears, which forces you to solve the harder problem: distance, timing and the visual-motor reaction that links seeing an opening to firing a strike. The curved striking face is doing real work too — it centres the impact and gives instant tactile feedback, so a clean, square strike feels and sounds completely different from a glancing one. That feedback loop is why pad work corrects technique faster than any amount of bag rounds.

Key Benefits

  • Trains reaction time, not just power. The holder can present the target late, pull it away, or change levels — turning every round into a decision-making drill rather than a mechanical repetition.
  • The curve rewards a clean strike. A concave face centres the impact and lets you feel immediately whether you landed square with the knuckles or drifted off-line.
  • Kinder to hands and wrists than a bag. The pad gives and absorbs, so cumulative wrist and knuckle load over a long session is lower — useful if you’re training frequently or coming back from a hand injury.
  • Works across striking arts. Boxing hooks and straights, taekwondo round kicks, Sanda combinations — the same target serves a punch and a kick.
  • You need almost no space. Two people and a couple of square metres. No mounting, no ceiling beam, no bag stand.
  • The holder gets a workout too. Absorbing and feeding a target is real conditioning for the shoulders and core — pad holding is not the passive job it looks like.

How to Use

The holder does half the work here, and doing it badly is how people get hurt. Meet the strike — move the pad a short distance toward the incoming hand or foot and then absorb by giving five to ten centimetres, rather than swinging the pad into the strike, which creates a violent collision and jars both people’s joints. Keep the elbow bent and braced with the pad in your peripheral vision at all times; never hold a target for a strike you can’t see coming. Present the pad at the height of the actual target you’re simulating, and keep your own head out of line with it. The striker should wear hand wraps and gloves — a bare fist into a hard pad edge is a classic boxer’s-fracture mechanism. Start with single shots and clear calls, and only build to reactive combinations once both people have the rhythm. Inspect the strap and stitching before every session and retire the pad when the padding compresses and starts to feel hard through the face.

Care & Maintenance

Wipe the striking face down with a damp cloth after every session; sweat left on a synthetic surface degrades it and it will start to smell within days. Never soak the pad or put it in a washing machine — water gets into the foam core, and once it’s in, it stays there. Air dry away from direct heat, and store it somewhere ventilated rather than sealed in a gym bag. Check the strap, the stitching and the compression of the foam regularly; a pad whose padding has flattened out no longer protects the holder’s arm and should be replaced.

Common questions

What ounce boxing gloves should I buy?
Ten to twelve ounces for bag and pad work, sixteen ounces for sparring. Heavier gloves protect your training partner as much as they protect you.
Do I need hand wraps under gloves?
Yes. Wraps support the wrist and the small bones of the hand, and they take the sweat that would otherwise rot the glove lining. Wrap in a figure-eight around the wrist and over the knuckles.
How do you fit a boil-and-bite mouthguard?
Follow the stated boil time exactly, then bite and suck the guard into place before cooling it in water. Over-boiling thins the material and gives a loose fit that protects far less.
