The Small Rotation That Wrecks Your Morning Back
When you sleep on your side with your knees together, the upper leg drops forward and down. That drags the pelvis into rotation, and because the lumbar spine follows the pelvis, your lower back spends the night in a slightly twisted position. Add the compression through the greater trochanter of the lower hip and you have the two most common causes of morning hip and back stiffness in side sleepers. A knee pillow does one job: it holds the femurs roughly parallel, so the pelvis stays square and the lumbar spine stays neutral. It is a positioning tool, not a treatment — but the position is the problem.
Key Benefits
- Keeps the pelvis square all night — separating the knees stops the top leg collapsing across the midline, which is the actual mechanism behind side-sleeper back stiffness.
- A long 14″ cushion, not a small wedge — the extra length supports the shin and ankle too, so your lower leg doesn’t slide off and undo the alignment at 3am.
- Relieves pressure between the knees — bone-on-bone contact at the medial knees is a genuine pain source for lean sleepers and anyone with knee sensitivity.
- Useful in pregnancy and post-surgery — side-lying with a leg support is routinely recommended after hip surgery and in later pregnancy. Follow your clinician’s guidance over ours.
- Memory foam holds shape under load — polyester filling flattens within weeks; viscoelastic foam keeps the separation distance it was designed for.
- Won’t cure a bad back — this improves sleeping position. If your pain is severe, radiating down a leg, or waking you nightly, get it assessed.
How to Use
Lie on your side with hips and knees bent to roughly 45 degrees, and place the pillow between your knees so the top leg rests level with the bottom one — the two thighs should end up roughly parallel to the mattress. With the longer 14″ cushion, let it run down between your shins so your ankles are supported too. Pair it with a head pillow thick enough to keep your neck level with your spine, or you’ll fix the bottom half and neglect the top. Give it a week: your body has spent years sleeping rotated and will need a few nights to stop fighting the new position. Remove the cover and wash it if it retains heat — memory foam runs warm.

Care & Maintenance
Remove the cover and machine wash it cool, then air-dry. Never wash or soak the memory foam core itself — water breaks down the cell structure and it will never fully dry. Spot-clean the foam with a barely damp cloth if needed. Air the pillow out periodically; memory foam absorbs moisture and body heat. Expect a slight new-foam smell for the first few days, which airs out. Replace when the foam no longer springs back and stays compressed.
