Abs & Core Trainers

Core equipment works by lengthening the lever your midsection has to control — an ab wheel rolling away from you or a slider extending your reach both make the trunk work harder without adding weight. This is why an $12 ab wheel is more demanding than most machines.

A compact collection of ab wheels, sliders and core trainers.

Using an ab wheel safely

Start from your knees, roll out only as far as you can go while keeping the lower back flat, and stop the moment the back begins to arch. Most people should spend several weeks on partial-range kneeling rollouts before extending further. If you feel it in your lower back rather than your abdomen, you have gone too far.

Frequently asked questions

Are ab wheels good for beginners?

Yes, if you limit the range. Kneeling rollouts to a partial range are a legitimate beginner exercise; full standing rollouts are an advanced movement.

Do ab machines burn belly fat?

No. You cannot spot-reduce fat from a specific area, and any product claiming otherwise is overselling. Core equipment builds the muscle underneath; visible definition comes from overall body composition.

Ab wheel or core sliders?

A wheel is more stable and better for rollouts. Sliders are cheaper, work on more surfaces and cover a wider set of exercises including mountain climbers and hamstring curls.
