Pilates & Balance

Pilates and balance equipment adds a controlled instability or a light resistance so the small stabilising muscles have to work — which is the entire point of the method. A Pilates ring squeezes, a balance cushion wobbles, a reformer strap loads the limb through a long range.

This collection holds 35 rings, straps, boards, cushions and balance trainers.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need equipment for Pilates at home?

No — mat Pilates needs only a mat. A ring and a set of loop straps are the two additions that open up the most extra exercises for the least money.

Are balance boards good for ankle rehab?

Balance training is a standard part of returning from an ankle sprain, and boards and cushions are the usual tools. Start with a stable cushion before progressing to a rocking board, and hold a support until you are confident.

What is a Pilates ring for?

It adds light resistance you squeeze against, usually between the knees, the ankles or the hands. It makes familiar mat exercises noticeably harder without adding load to the spine.
