Women’s Gradient Compression Socks 3-Pack – Anti-Slip for Running & Flying

$14.99

Gradient compression socks apply graduated pressure from ankle to calf for travel and standing work. This three-pack is anti-slip knee-high knit with a cushioned sole. For general use, 15-20 mmHg is the range most people want; 20-30 mmHg is medical-grade and worth checking with a clinician.

Graduated Compression: What the Evidence Actually Supports

Gradient compression is one of the few garment technologies with a real physiological mechanism. Pressure is highest at the ankle and decreases up the calf, and this pressure gradient works with the calf muscle pump to help venous blood return against gravity rather than pooling in the lower leg. This is why the strongest evidence sits squarely in swelling and circulation: compression demonstrably reduces lower-leg oedema on long flights and long days on your feet. What the evidence does not support is the performance claim. Compression socks do not make you meaningfully faster, and the data on them speeding muscle recovery is inconsistent. They are excellent for swelling, and merely pleasant for running.

Key Benefits

  • Genuinely effective against travel swelling. This is the best-supported use. On long-haul flights and long car journeys, graduated compression reduces the ankle and calf swelling that comes from hours of immobility.
  • Support for long days standing. Nurses, teachers, hospitality staff and anyone on their feet for a twelve-hour shift report substantially less heaviness and aching in the legs.
  • Anti-slip cuff stays put. A compression sock that rolls down the calf stops applying a gradient and starts acting as a tourniquet at one point. The grip band is not a luxury feature.
  • Breathable knit for running and hiking. Comfortable and supportive over long miles, and the fabric reduces friction hot spots — though be clear that comfort, not speed, is the benefit.
  • Invisible fit under normal clothing. Discreet enough for the office, a flight or a formal event, which matters because a compression sock in a drawer does nothing.
  • Three pairs for rotation. Compression garments must be washed frequently and lose elasticity over time. Three pairs rotated last considerably longer than one pair worn daily.

How to Use

Put compression socks on first thing in the morning, before your legs have had a chance to swell — pulling them onto an already-swollen ankle is difficult and much less effective. Turn the sock inside out down to the heel, place the heel correctly, then roll the leg of the sock up rather than yanking it from the top, which stretches out the cuff and creates a tight band. Smooth out every wrinkle: a fold in the fabric concentrates pressure and can cut into the skin. For flights, put them on before you leave for the airport and keep them on until you land. Safety: this matters. Do not use graduated compression if you have peripheral arterial disease, and speak to a clinician first if you have diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, heart failure, or any broken or infected skin on the leg — compression can worsen an already-compromised arterial supply, and reduced sensation means you may not feel damage occurring. Remove them if you get numbness, tingling, colour change, or pain, and do not wear them overnight unless a clinician has told you to.

Care & Maintenance

Machine wash cool on a gentle cycle inside a mesh bag and hang to dry. Never tumble dry, iron or dry them on a radiator: heat is what destroys the elastane, and a compression sock that has lost its elasticity has lost its entire function — it is no longer a compression sock, just a sock. Avoid bleach and fabric softener. Rotate the three pairs rather than wearing one repeatedly, and replace them when the ankle no longer feels noticeably firmer than the calf.

Common questions

What compression level do I need?
For travel, standing shifts and running, 15-20 mmHg is the range most people want. 20-30 mmHg is medical-grade and worth discussing with a clinician before you buy, particularly if you have circulation problems or diabetes.
How do I size compression socks?
Measure the widest part of your calf and match that to the size chart. Shoe size alone is the most common cause of a bad fit. A sock that leaves deep indentations or makes your foot cold is too small.
Can you sleep in compression socks?
Graduated compression socks are designed for use while you are upright and active. Unless a clinician has told you otherwise, take them off at night.
