Yoga Mats

A yoga mat is chosen on three things: thickness, grip and material. 6mm is the default that suits most practices; thinner mats give better floor feel for balance work, thicker mats protect knees and wrists during floor-based Pilates.

This collection holds 16 mats in TPE, PVC and natural rubber, including alignment-line mats and travel thicknesses.

Mat thickness and material

Thickness Best for Trade-off
2–4mm Travel, standing balance, hot yoga Hard on knees
6mm General yoga, the safe default —
8–10mm Pilates, floor work, sore knees Less stable in balance poses
15mm+ Floor exercise, stretching Not a yoga mat as such
  • TPE — light, recyclable, mid grip, low odour.
  • PVC — cheapest and most durable, least eco-friendly.
  • Natural rubber — best wet grip, heaviest, strong smell for the first week.

Frequently asked questions

What yoga mat thickness is best for beginners?

6mm. It cushions the knees enough for kneeling poses while keeping you stable in standing balances.

Which mat is best for hot yoga?

Natural rubber, or a mat with a microfibre top layer, because both grip better as they get wet. Standard PVC and TPE become slippery with sweat.

How do I clean a yoga mat?

Wipe after each use with water and a few drops of mild soap, or a 1:3 white vinegar and water spray. Air dry flat, out of direct sunlight. Avoid oil-based cleaners, which leave the surface slick.
